Hackathon is an innovation competition. Teams of innovators (solution providers) come forward with potential solutions to a previously defined challenge that has been submitted by a real-life enterprise (challenge provider). The challenges will be the lack of ready-made solutions on the market that can be implemented. Selected teams, with the support of mentors, will be able to refine their idea during the Hackathon and present it to a jury composed of experts representing the company and mentors. Companies submitting the Hackathon challenge will continue to work with the winning teams to bring their ideas to market.

The organization of Hackathons aims to find new solutions that will lead to a change in the existing business models within the bioeconomy value chains towards the implementation of the idea of a circular economy. Hackathons in the BioBoosters project will be based on a proven methodology for organizing this type of events developed and implemented in Finland by JAMK University of Applied Sciences.
